Entity type settings

This page is for administrators: the operations described require access to the administration area.

You manage entity types under Admin → PIM entities. You cannot delete an entity type.

General Info

Setting Effect Editable after creation
Key The entity type code. If Auto generate SKU is enabled, it is used as the prefix for generated SKUs No
Label The entity type name shown to users Yes
Linked To The record type: Product, Media or Marketing Tool No
Is Default The default entity type for its record type. There is one default per record type: if another entity type with the same record type is already the default, the checkbox is disabled Yes
Manual Creation Users can create records of this type manually. For products, only these entity types appear in Add product Yes
Auto generate SKU The SKU is generated automatically. Only available with Manual Creation Yes
Has Tech Specs Records can have tech specs. The entity type appears on the Tech specs page and the Excel export offers Export all TechSpecs data Yes

Automatically generated SKUs

With Auto generate SKU, the SKU consists of the entity type's Key followed by a six-digit sequential number: with the key MODEL, new products receive MODEL000001, MODEL000002 and so on.

Without Auto generate SKU, you enter the SKU when creating the product. It must not duplicate an existing product's SKU.

Disabling Manual Creation also disables Auto generate SKU.

Linked Entities Info

This section only appears when you edit an entity type that has already been saved. The options after Is entity group are only enabled when Is entity group is selected.

Setting Effect
Is entity group Records of this type are groups that contain other linked records, for example a model with its variants
Linked entities The entity types of the records the group can contain. You can choose from entity types with the same Linked To value
Linked entities attribute The group attribute that contains the linked records. You can choose from the entity type's attributes of type ProductLinkValue or ProductVariantsValue that are not tech specs
«When … has errors, set … in error» The group's validation errors are propagated to the linked records. In the entity type list, this corresponds to the Propagate validation to children column
«When any linked … has errors, set … as in error» If a linked record has validation errors, the group is also marked as having errors. In the list, this corresponds to the Get validation from children column

The labels of the last two options include the names of the selected entity types, for example «When Model has errors, set Variant in error».

For product entity types that are groups, the product menu also offers Add products in bulk: it creates a group for each title in an Excel file, linked to the SKUs listed in its rows. This only works if the group's entity type has both Manual Creation and Auto generate SKU enabled.

The entity type list

For each entity type, the PIM entities list shows the columns Key, Label, Linked To, Is Default, Manual Creation, Has tech specs, Is entity group, Propagate validation to children and Get validation from children. The Search text field searches the key and label.
