How to create a channel
This page is for administrators: the steps described require access to the administration area.
Create a channel, choose its languages and countries, and delete channels you no longer need. You will need access to the Channels administration area. The settings are explained in Channel structure and described individually in Channel settings.
Create the channel
- In the menu, select Admin, then Channels.
- Click Add new.
- Fill in the required fields:
- Type: the channel type. Validation rules are configured by type;
- Key: the channel key. You cannot change it after saving. openlane does not check that it is unique: choose one that no other channel uses;
- Name: the name shown to users;
- Locales and Countries: at least one language and one country;
- Company: the company the channel belongs to;
- Channel Family: B2C Websites, B2B Websites, Marketplaces or Others.
- If needed, set Category Family and Fallback Locale. Once you select a Category Family, you can change it but cannot remove it.
- Configure the other options: Product groups entity types, Enable Output, Staging Area Available, prices, availability and price match. For prices and availability, follow How to configure channel prices and How to configure availability, stock and price match.
- Click Save.
The message Channel saved appears, and the channel is added to the Channels list.
After creating the channel:
- assign it to the users who need to see it through their permissions;
- if the channel type is new, configure validation rules for that type, as described in How to add a validation rule to an attribute.
Delete a channel
openlane does not check whether the channel is in use. After deletion, products retain their link to the channel, but the channel no longer appears on the product page and is no longer validated or exported. Users, data flows and automations that use the channel are not updated.
- In the Channels list, click the Delete icon in the channel's row.
- Confirm the deletion.
The message Channel deleted appears.
