How to create an entity type

This page is for administrators: the steps described require access to the administration area.

Create a new entity type for a product, media or marketing tool type with its own attributes and rules. To create an entity type, you need access to the EntityType administration area.

You cannot delete an entity type or change its Key and Linked To values after creation. Choose the key carefully: if you enable Auto generate SKU, it becomes the prefix for all generated SKUs.

  1. In the menu, select Admin, then PIM entities.

  2. Click Add new.

  3. In the General Info section, fill in the fields:

    • Key: the entity type code;

    • Label: the name shown to users;

    • Linked To: the record type: Product, Media or Marketing Tool.

  4. Select the options you need:

    • Is Default, if this should be the default entity type for its record type;

    • Manual Creation, if users should be able to create records of this type manually;

    • Auto generate SKU, if the SKU should be generated automatically;

    • Has Tech Specs, if the records should have tech specs.

  5. Click Save.

The new entity type appears in the PIM entities list. You can now create its attributes, as described in How to create an attribute.

Make the entity type a group

Options for groups of linked records appear only after you first save the entity type.

First, create an attribute of type ProductLinkValue or ProductVariantsValue in the entity type to hold the linked records. Without it, the Linked entities attribute field has no options to display.

  1. In the PIM entities list, click Edit in the entity type's row.

  2. In the Linked Entities Info section, select Is entity group.

  3. In Linked entities, choose the entity types of the records the group will contain.

  4. In Linked entities attribute, choose the attribute that holds the linked records.

  5. Choose how validation errors propagate between the group and its linked records.

  6. Click Save.

Each option is explained in Entity type settings.
